Tan Seng Toh, the founder, opens his first store in North Bridge Road, with just a table display of jade and a conservative stock of gold, having travelled by boat from Guangdong, China. Beginnings were humble and challenging. Having minimal capital and no permanent place to set up shop means there was a need to move around every 2-3 years.
